On May 7, 1933 Bernice K. Baker (nee Trigg) was born to Deacon Albert and Myrtle (Johnson) Trigg, who preceded her in death. She was the 9th child in a family unit of 5 boys (James, J.C., Andrew, Albert Jack and Fred Trigg), and 5 girls (Christine, Frances Elizabeth T. Jones & Dimple (Talma) Keys), all of whom preceded her in death. She leaves behind, adopted brother, Bruce (Gwen) Alexander and sister-in-law, D. Marie Trigg.
United in marriage to the late William (Billy) Nobles of Fayetteville, TN, Bernice bore daughter Vanessa Jean Reed (deceased) who gave her a grandson, Charles, Fayetteville, NC and a granddaughter, Tanisha (deceased); six great grandchildren: Erick (deceased), Cierra (William) Anderson, Cydney, Jaden, Joseph and Jason Nobles; a great-great grandson (Liam Anderson); and son-in-law Steven Reed.
Her second marriage was to the late Leemon Baker, Sr.; from this union came one step-son, Leemon “Butch” Baker Jr., step-daughters, Diana, Barbara & Sharon, and grandson, Darnell.
Prior to retiring from GM Truck & Bus, Bernice bartended for the Barbarso, Ben’s, and the VFW Post 10453, where she also played softball with the VFW’s (Very Fine Women) team. She was also a member, and former officer, of the American Legion Post 328 Women’s Auxiliary.
Bernice was blessed with her special long-time companion, Joe “Chuck” Cooley; bonus daughters and grandchildren, LaSonya Mason (Scotland & J’one) and Kristen Ladd (Aliesia, Alivia, Alexia, & Andrew); in-laws: Alma, Linda, Larry, Vel and Sedrick; dear friends: Bonnie Florence, Leslie Robinson and DeeDee Waters; special niece Michelle Trigg; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends - too many to name, but always in her heart.
On Monday, November 6, 2023, Bernice bade all farewell to answer the call home as she flew away to be with the Lord. A memorial service will be held in Bernice’s honor on Saturday, December 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bold Believers Church of Christ, 1306 Salem Av Dayton, OH.
