Bobby Washam Obituary

Bobby James Washam, of Dayton, Ohio, was born on May 12, 1937, in Versailles, Kentucky, to the late Henry Porter Washam and Viola Johnson Washam.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Eurlonzo and Jeff Johnson; sisters Sarah, Johnnye, Ouida, Nancye, and Patricia; children Ouida Johnson Washam and Marc Johnigan; and grandchildren Ronika, Donte, Shamari, and Shameshia.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted children: sons Todd (Maurieta) Washam, Clayton (Michelle) Harrington, and LyMartin Chapman; daughters Teresa Washam, Robin (Taji) Newsome, Marla (Kenneth) Holloway, Viola (Charles) Turner, Ruby Mabry, and Nichoel Johnigan. His legacy continues through 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Affectionately known as “Bob,” he was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose unconditional love brought warmth and unity to all who knew him. Family was the heart of his world—he delighted in gathering loved ones together, creating bonds that will endure for generations. Bob also deeply valued his friendships, always showing genuine care, compassion, and laughter to those around him. His ability to make everyone feel seen and appreciated was one of his greatest gifts.

A proud veteran, Bob honorably served his country in the United States Armed Forces, embodying strength, discipline, and integrity—qualities that continued to shape his life long after his service ended.

A true man of God, Bob was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for more than 70 years. His faith guided his every step, and he lived by example—offering encouragement, comfort, and love wherever he went.

To those blessed to know him, Bob was more than a family man or a friend—he was a storyteller, a poet, and a keeper of history. With a voice full of wisdom and humor, he shared stories of his travels and reflections on life that inspired everyone who listened. His words carried the weight of experience and the light of hope.

Among his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his many grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. His laughter, advice, and tender heart created memories that will live on in each of them.

Bob’s kindness, generosity, and faith left an indelible mark on countless lives. Whether through his warm smile, his comforting presence, or his familiar farewell, “God be with you,” he touched the hearts of all he encountered.

Though his earthly journey has come to a close, the love, faith, and stories he shared will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. His legacy is one of strength, unity, and grace—a life well-lived and deeply loved.
