James T. Phelps was born on March 9th, 1959 to Deloris Walker in Dayton, Ohio. He transitioned home to be with the Lord on October 29th, 2020. He is preceded in death by his Mother Deloris Walker, his son James T. Phelps Jr., Sister Jackie Phelps and two brothers Gregory and Anthony Phelps. He is survived by his Daughters Neisha Parson, Jameisha Shelly and his Son Roderick Shears, Sister Angela Phelps and Brothers Gayland Phelps, Leonard Phelps, Mike (Dynette ) Floyd and his God Mother Virginia (Gent) Smith. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren James T. Phelps lll , Paris Phelps , Jada Brooks, Roderick Shears Jr. Rog’Eon Shears , Tion Shears , Daesean Wilson, Asis Wilson, Evan Wilson, Aden Wilson, and host of nieces and nephews , cousins and many loving friends.
James was a hardworking , clean cut, life of the party kind of guy. He was well known to everyone as “Bop-Bop”, which started as a phrase he himself would commonly say and later it became his most common nickname. James had a way with words. He had some saying that would make you think or do a double take. He was the true definition of handyman. He helped out so many. From teaching you how to iron the perfect crease to helping you move various items around the house, James was always there. James loved to get dressed and show everyone how he looked. James was the type of person who developed special relationships with everyone he met. He prideful man even so that he wouldn’t let his illness keep him from living. James was a fighter and he lived his life to the fullest. He will truly be missed.
