JAMES ALLAN BROWN (The Legend)
To the many who knew him, and to those fortunate enough to have been touched by his legacy, my father, James Allan Brown, often affectionately called "JAB", was truly a renaissance man. Born on April 1, 1937, in Springfield, Ohio, to the loving Ruth and Charles Brown, he was the cornerstone of our family, which included his siblings, Eddie, Fred (both who have since passed), Janice, Mary, and his only living sister, Theresa Hudson. From an early age, Dad was a man of multiple talents. After obtaining degrees in both barbering and cosmetology, he went on to pursue a degree in broadcasting. These accomplishments paved the way for him to craft and bring to life his awarding-winning television show, "The Barbershop Perspective" on DATV. His commitment and excellence in his craft led him to win the coveted Shoe String Award in Access Media for an astounding 9 consecutive years - an achievement comparable to receiving an Emmy in syndicated television. Before all these accolades, Dad was first and foremost a Master Barber. He dedicated over five decades of his life to this profession, owning and operating several barbershops. His deep passion for barbering was rivaled only by his love for semi-pro bowling, where he proudly boasted multiple 300 games and maintained an impressive average of 260. In addition to his many skills and professions, he was also an EMT. Beyond his professional life, my father served our country as a Navy veteran, where he was also a boxer. To Mark, James, Freddie, and Dara, he was simply an amazing father. He was also a proud grandfather to 9, and great-grandfather to 17 beautiful souls. Today, as we remember Dad, who left us on October 23, 2023, we cherish the countless memories, lessons, and love he bestowed upon us. He is survived by his friend and former wife, Rosetta Brown and dear sister, Theresa Hudson, who reside in Cleveland, Ohio.
In loving memory of James Allan Brown - A legend, a father, and an inspiration.
