Joe D. Tims, Sr. age 82, passed away on November 4, 2023 in Fairfax, Virginia with his family by his side. He resided in Washington, DC with his loving daughter Shelley and son-in-law Sammy Grant. Born on May 20, 1941, in Homer, Louisiana to the late Mary D. Evans and Cornelius Tims. Joe moved to Dayton, Ohio at a young age before relocating to Washington, DC in 2017. Joe graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1959 and proudly retired from General Motors in 1995, after over 30 years of service. Joe was also a founding member of Eight is Enough. His hobbies reflected his love for life, he enjoyed riding bikes, collecting cars, traveling throughout the country and creating new memories. He was known for his quick wit, love for storytelling and was a pillar in his family and community. Predeceased by his parents and step-mother, Minnie Tims; brothers Carl Tims, Bobby Ray Evans, Saint Clair Tims, George Ray Evans and Willie James Evans. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving children: Darrick (Monique) Rucker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Teresa Ellis of Washington, DC; Joe D. Tims Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; Shelley (Sammy) Tims Grant of Washington, DC; Heather Langster, of Cincinnati, OH; his siblings and twin brother Jerry (Debbie) Tims; other siblings, Lester (Navonna) Albright; Glender Tims Shelton; Sheila McClendon; Walter (Mary) Evans; Terry Evans; Jerry Glynn Evans; Nathan Williams; Timothy (Nereida) Tims and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joe D. Tims’ life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and service. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories passed down through generations. A service to honor Joe's life will be held at Rhema Lighthouse Christian Center (3271 Glen Helen Rd, Dayton, OH 45406) on November 17, 2023, at 12pm with the viewing preceding 11am - 12pm. Following the service, Joe will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery.
