John Edward Layne Jr.

John “Pook” Edward Layne, Jr. was born on January 3, 1958, and passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude K. Layne; his parents, Claudia Layne and John Edward Layne, Sr.; his bonus mom Sandra Carson; his grandmother, Molly Dozier; his brother, Jamie Layne; his aunt, Joyce Lee; and his cousin, Adrienne Ross. He is survived by his daughter, Claudette McBeth; bonus children, Elijah James Curtis, Jr., Leona Bukue Taylor, and Olive Robinson Johnson; brothers, James Layne (Lisia) and Kendall Layne (Vondelia); sister, Alisa White (R.C.); aunt, Brenda Frazier; childhood friends, Charles Berry, Stephen Vineyard, and Karen McBeth; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and bonus grandchildren who will cherish his memory. A native of Dayton, Ohio, John graduated from Meadowdale High School, Class of 1976, and served as an enlisted member of the United States Army. He was a long-term resident of Maryland and dedicated over thirty years of service to Fitzgerald Auto Mall.
