Michael Arnold Obituary

Michael Thomas Arnold, born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, came into the world on June 9, 1954.  He passed away on September 23, 2025, surrounded by love. A product of caring and giving parents, Joanne and John Simmons, Michael possessed those same traits.  Michael grew up in Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church.  He LOVED the LORD with all his heart and soul; and praised HIS holy name.

  Known for his quick wit, charisma, and endearing affection for his family and friends, Michael was truly loved by many and will be sorely missed.  He attended Roth High School, followed by an illustrious sales career.  He dedicated more than 20 years of his life to the trucking and transportation industry.   He worked with Volvo, Kenworth, Worldwide Equipment and The Service Company.  Michael also had an entrepreneurial spirit and engaged in various businesses, including but not limited to, owning and operating a restaurant for over five years, called The Rainbow Cafe.  He was a great Chef and continued to take great joy in preparing meals for his family and friends.  His hard work, dedication and warm personality left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

  Michael was very knowledgeable and well versed in many areas.  He could dialogue with the best, especially in the areas of music, sports, movies, cooking, politics, religion and LIFE in general.  His love of music covered all genres.  His favorite artists were Kirk Franklin and Bob Marley.  He also possessed impeccable street sense; he was a sharp dresser and just  “too cool”.  Many sought his advice and counsel. His presence touched the lives of many and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to experience his kindness and spirit.

  Preceding Michael in death were his loving parents Joanne and John Simmons; sister, Jocelyn (Michael) Joyner; and paternal father, Jack Arnold.

  Michael and Deborah were united in Holy Matrimony in 1978.  Michael LOOOVED and adored his wife; and was proud to let everyone know it.  Deborah lives on to cherish his immeasurable memories.  He is also survived by his children, Michole Brigham (Darnell), Dayton, OH; Marcus Brigham (Felisia), Dayton, OH; Makeea Dopson (Aaron), Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren; Lashawndra, Darnay, Mar’Kiesha, Marcus Jr., Marquia, Mar-Keem, Azhanae;

brother, John Stephan Simmons (Donna), Dayton, OH; Special Cousin/Sister, Joyce Davidson (Jerome), Fayetteville, GA; sister-in-law, Hazel Pegues Williams, Cincinnati, OH; niece and nephew, Shelby Simmons and Sheldon Joyner, Dayton, OH and special great-niece Rasiyah (who Michael lovingly called “My Pal”).  Michael was revered by a host of loving grand and great-grandchildren, grand and great nieces and nephews, Gregory Walker (lifelong friend), Mr. Will (neighbor) and many, many family members and friends.  He leaves a legacy of  love, compassion, strength, inspiration, loyalty and joy. His presence will be missed but Michael’s spirit will be in our hearts forever.
