Nathaniel “Winston” Irving, age 85, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025.
Born on December 3, 1939, to the late Carla “Thelma” Irving and Nathaniel Winston Irving Sr., Winston lived a life defined by service, music, and a profound devotion to his family and community.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Winston served his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public service through his dedicated work at the Dayton Correctional Institution, where he was known for his integrity and steadfast work ethic.
Winston was a gifted vocalist and passionate musician, once performing with a band that brought joy and inspiration to many. He was also an enthusiastic sportsman who found joy in playing tennis and was a proud and active member of a local bowling league.
He is survived by his children: LaNisa Allen, Natalie Irving (of Dallas, TX), and Anthony (Christina) Brown; as well as his beloved grandchildren: D’Wana Allen, Bryanna Barr, Treyvion Ford, Anthony Brown Jr., and Brandon Brown. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and a close friend, Major Winn.
Winston was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Barr, along with his parents and his sisters: Cheri Jones, Gloria Johnson, and Maxine Darwin Gore.
He will be remembered for his warm and welcoming spirit, his voice that could fill a room, and the unwavering love he extended to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
