Ronald Becker Obituary

Ronald Thomas Becker, 67, turned his last page (Bob Segar) at Victory Ridge Hospice on the Dayton Veterans Administration Hospital Campus on August 28, 2024.

Ron grew up in Beavercreek, Ohio where he delivered papers on his bicycle with his dog, Snoopy, running alongside. His school days were filled with Honors classes, Band, Football, Baseball, and hanging out with friends who would be life-long companions. To honor the bravery and service of his father’s decision to fight in World War II, Ron enlisted in the Army in 1977, being part of the first volunteer army after the draft. Army basic training was no match for his boss at Hurley's Draperies. Trained as a medical technician, he was stationed in Texas, Georgia and Germany. While in the Army, Ron married his best friend Dawn, who, although their life paths diverged, they remained close friends and allies. After honorably leaving the Army, Ron finished his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy at the University of Florida, partially financed by his GI bill. He handed his diploma to his mom and picked up a hammer. Building yard barns lead him to connections with the Carpenters Union. Ron was always the first on the jobsite, whether it was luxury homes, renovating Oakwood and Beavercreek High Schools or building Speedway gas stations. Ron married his second wife Sue who shared her full family with him until her death in 2023.

Ron was a simple good old boy who loved his dog, his friends and his beer. Ron trusted in the power of the scientific method to reveal the truths of nature as much as he believed in the power of God to set nature in motion. Not one for ceremony, he shared God's love by being warm to everyone he met and quick to make a friend. He loved long conversations with friends while with good old country music in the background and a cold beer in his hand. Generous to a fault, Ron always helped those in need, regardless of any society-prescribed worthiness. He continued this generosity to his final act by donating his eyes to scientific research.

Ron's best days were found on a baseball or softball field and when he stopped playing you would find him listening to the Cincinnati Reds games on the radio. Ron was an artist, crafting treasures out of wood. He proudly made flag boxes for Veterans. Throughout his life Ron was devoted to his kid sister Lora. If you know Ron, you know stories about her.

Surrounded by his life-long BHS friends and his sister, Ron lost his battle with cancer while in the care of the Victory Ridge Hospice on the Dayton Veterans Administration Hospital Campus. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Ralph Becker and Sara (Sally) Becker and his wife Sue. Ron is survived by Ed and Elena Becker, John and Pat Becker, Lora Becker, Nieces, Nephews and a special grandson Morgan Pontsler. Also, his good old dog Buddy.

If your heart calls for you to pass on your care for Ron as a gift, please consider sharing your time, effort, or money with someone in need, as Ron would do.

Ron and his wife Sue will be put to rest Friday, October 4, 10 am at the Dayton National Cemetery, Shelter B, 4400 W Third St, Dayton. Memorial gathering will be at C. I. Beaver Park at 3696 Highmont Street in Beavercreek from 1 – 5pm, all are welcome.
