Ronnie, as he was lovingly known by his Family and Friends, was born in Dayton, OH to his devoted parents, James and Marietta Gilbert, on May 8, 1959. As the 7th of 9 children, Ronnie grew up surrounded by a large and close-knit family. He attended Roosevelt High School until its closing in 1975, after which he completed his education at Meadowdale High School, graduating in 1977.
In approximately 2005, Ronnie relocated to Minneapolis, MN, where he built a meaningful and fulfilling life for himself. He remained there until his passing on October 15, 2025. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bertha (William) Deboe and Gloria Humphrey; one brother, James (Lena) Gilbert; and one son, Allenton Gilbert.
Ronnie leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers: Richard and Paul Gilbert; three sisters: Barbara (Milton) Young, Sarah Gilbert, and Dianna (Elvis) Snerling; one son, Ronald Jackson; two daughters, Shaleta Gilbert and Brenetta Franklin; eleven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
In his final years, Ronnie faced significant health challenges while undergoing dialysis, yet he demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. He was a fighter—steadfast in his faith in the Lord and unwavering in his love for life. Through every hardship, Ronnie maintained a spirit of perseverance that inspired everyone around him.
Ronnie found joy in simple but meaningful pleasures: reading the Bible, attending church, cooking, eating, dancing, playing games, and spending time with his family. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and light to every gathering. We already miss him deeply—his smile, laughter, passion, and unmistakable spirit.
May he rest in peace now and forever. Amen.
