Selwyn Shawn Givens

Mr. Selwyn Shawn Givens, age 58, departed this life Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. He was a native of Oakland, California but resided in Dayton, Ohio, many years. Shawn, as everyone knew him, was the fifth of five children born to the late John and Inez Givens. He received Christ in 1993 at Union Baptist Church in Oakland, California and later joined Christian Disciple Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. He was employed at Lewis & Michael Moving Company and worked until he became ill. Shawn enjoyed fellowship of his family and friends as well as his perpetual favorite pastime....fishing. He was known for putting a smile on your face with his laughter and jokes. He was a joy to be around, and will forever remain in our minds and our hearts. Shawn was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert and Kenneth Givens; and nephew, Ahmad Givens. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cynthia Givens; brothers, Don and Greg Givens; sister-in-law, Claudia Givens; brother-in-law, Keith Bickerstaff; grandchildren, Maniya and Michael, II Darden; nephew, Grayson, Kamal, Sean and Micha Givens; a special cousin, Skip Givens and a host of other relatives and many friends. Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Hoover Place Reception Hall, 5348 Joshua Trail, Dayton, Ohio, with Pastor Charles Spencer, officiating. Family will receive friends one prior to service.
