William Thomas Hairston Jr., affectionately known as "Bill, was born on May 24, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan, to William T. Hairston Sr. and the late Christine Y. Hairston.
Bill graduated from Belmont High School in Dayton, Ohio, Class of 1987. He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy, where he received an Honorable Discharge. After completing his military service, he continued his commitment to structure, discipline, and service by working as a Correctional Officer at Chillicothe Correctional Institution.
Bill was truly one of a kind. Those who knew him remember him as uniquely smart, thoughtful, unapologetically authentic-and he leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, intellect, and unwavering individuality. With a sharp and curious mind, he was an avid reader who loved learning. A master of words and strategy, Bill was a Scrabble whiz who rarely lost a match.
Beyond his intellect, Bill embraced life through the simple joys he loved most. He was a dedicated softball player and coach who cherished the competition, the camaraderie, and the fun of being on the field. He also found peace outdoors, especially while fishing-one of his favorite ways to reflect, think, and relax. Whether cooking or experimenting in the kitchen, Bill was known as a genuinely good cook whose dishes were crafted from the heart with care and love.
He kept up with current events every single day and could talk-or debate-with anyone at any time. Even as he faced health challenges, he never allowed them to dim his curiosity or his zest for life.
Bill loved cruising the world with his life partner, Bridgette. Together they explored Alaska, Aruba, Barbados, Curaçao, Italy, Portugal, and many more destinations. Their adventures were filled with joy, companionship, and unforgettable memories. His dedication, integrity, and level-headed nature earned him deep respect from colleagues and everyone who knew him. Bill's life touched many, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Y. Hairston; his grandparents, Elbert and Mary Tenson, and James Henry and Vivian Hairston.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted life partner, Bridgette Worthy; his father, William T. Hairston Sr.; his siblings, Wayne T. Hairston Sr., Ebony E. Hairston, and Christopher M. Hairston (Nikon); daughters, Chabri Miller and Charity Johnson (Keree Sr.); grandchildren, Mitchell Harvey Jr., Keree Johnson Jr., and Bri'Honesty Harvey; uncles, Alfred Colvin Sr. (Drucilla) and Ronald Hairston Sr. (Aileen); aunt, Gwendolyn Gregory; special friends, Richard "Thirty" Varner, Michael Worthy, Charles Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
